The Biopower range from Eheim are some of our most popular filters and for good reason! Fondly known by our team as “the internal external filter”, these small but efficient filters perform like an external filter, with the water at the bottom being pumped back to the top of the filter through a range of filter media layers and back into the aquarium. Like the Aquaball range, the pump head on the Biopower range is round and sits in a ball joint, allowing you to adjust the direction of the output to suit your needs. There is also an adjustable diffuser valve which will allow you to control the level of air intake to improve the level of readily available dissolved oxygen in your aquarium. These filters are entirely modular which allows you to customise your media layout to suit your needs and maximise your filter’s efficiency. Another huge plus point of this modular construction is that maintenance for these filters is a breeze; simply unclip the compartments you wish to clean from the main pump head and carry out your maintenance on your media as required, while leaving the pump head in its holder. Upon finishing maintenance on your media, you simply need to clip the compartments back on to the pump head and you’re good to go! The filter takes in water from the bottom of the filter through the prefilter sponge, and pumps it back up through the filter, allowing it to come in to contact with the various layers of filter media before being pumped back into the aquarium. The aquaball concept with external filter technology External filter technology and multi-layer filtration – that means: the water at the bottom is pumped to the top through the various filter layers and after filtration directed back into the tank. The closed filter baskets come prefilled with EHEIM SUBSTRATpro. Other filter media can also be used. The inlet basket contains a filter cartridge for the mechanical-biological prefiltration. In the pumphead holder a filter pad provides additional filtration. By adding or removing filter modules (filter baskets) you can adjust the filter volume as necessary.
The ball shaped pumphead sits in a ball socket and can be turned right round. Thus the outflow of the filtered water can be aimed in any direction. The pump output and throughflow can be set by the control knob on the outflow nozzle. The power-diffusor is adjusted to regulate the air intake and thus the oxygen enrichment in the aquarium. (Instead of the diffusor, other extension pieces can be used; see accessories) The holder for biopower is simply fixed to the glass with suction cups. For cleaning, exchanging modules or filling with filter media, the filter is simply removed from its holder.

I love this filter!
I’ve been keeping fish for a while and upgraded my 130L tank from the equipment that came with it. It performs really well and keeps my tank clean. I really like that you can just leave the pump in the tank because the media baskets are modular and just clip on and off for maintenance. I’ll most likely get another one when I finally buy my new tank!
