To help reduce nitrates and phosphates, live plants and macro algae can be excellent biological detoxifiers. A macro algae reactor allows a dense growth of algae or plants outside of your aquarium to remove nitrates and phophates by circulating aquarium water through the reactor chamber.
TUNZE® Macro Algae Reactors 3181 and 3182 can be placed in any sump or next to/underneath an aquarium without external filter technology. The water circulation in the reactor ensures the rotation of the algae culture and thus reduces the number of light sources accompanied by strong plant growth. However, additional light sources can be added to the device as needed.
